Urology is a branch of science dealing with maintaining health, diagnosis and treatment of the urinary tract and reproductive organs in men. The word urology comes from “urologie”, a word of French origin.

Urinary System Stones (Kidney, Bladder, Ureter, Urethra)
The incidence of kidney and ureter stone diseases is quite high. One out of every 10 people presents to hospitals with kidney and ureteral stone disease at least once in their life. A stone is a hard mass developed by crystals from urine in the urinary tract. Stones formed in the kidney are called kidney stones, stones that form in the kidney and move to the urinary tract between the kidney and bladder and block the flow of urine are called ureter stones. Kidney and ureter stones are calcium oxalate stones, usually composed of calcium and oxalate minerals. Stone formation is linked to genetic predisposition, insufficient fluid intake and climate. Stone formation is common in the climate zone in which Turkey is located. Treatment for urinary stones is decided upon according to the size, location, number and contents of the stones. Urinary system stones can be treated using sound waves, ureteroscopy, open surgery and percutaneous stone surgery methods.
Urinary Tract Infections
Urinary tract infections are infections that occur in the kidney, ureters, bladder or any part of the urinary tract. Urinary tract infections are observed when bacteria outside of the body contaminate the urinary tract. The most common urinary tract infections include bladder infection (cystitis), inflammation of the tube responsible for carrying urine (urethritis), pyelonephritis caused by infection of the kidneys. The most obvious symptom of urinary tract infections is pain and burning sensation while urinating. Frequent urination, blood or dark color in the urine, and bad odor are signs of infection. Urinary tract infections are usually treated with antibiotics prescribed by a specialist.
Sexual problems are all psychological, functional, social and cultural problems that prevent a person from maintaining a healthy sexual life. There are many sexual dysfunctions such as inability to complete sexual intercourse in women, pain, contraction, erection problems in men, premature or late ejaculation and orgasm problems that can be seen in both genders. In sexual dysfunctions, necessary workups are performed to identify the cause of the problem and a treatment plan that will be carried out in conjunction with the relevant units is established. The incidence of sexual dysfunction problems is quite high and they are treatable diseases.
Treatment of Urinary Incontinence
Urinary incontinence is a condition in which the patient suffers from uncontrolled and involuntary leakage of urine. Although urinary incontinence can be seen at any age, it is mostly common in older people. Urinary incontinence is generally observed in women and is a disease that can cause social and psychological problems. Urinary incontinence can occur due to genetic factors, number of births, uterine prolapse, obesity, smoking and menopause. Urinary incontinence can be treated with surgical and non-surgical methods.
Prostate is located at the outlet of the bladder and surrounds the urethra. Prostate secretions keep sperm alive in female reproductive tracts. Prostate disease is usually observed in older men with initial symptoms of difficulty in urination. It can be treated with medications, open or closed surgeries.
Circumcision should be performed under operating room conditions by an experienced team of specialists, following surgical principles. Circumcision operations are planned and applied in the urology unit.
Urological oncology unit deals with kidney tumors, testicle tumors, prostate cancer and bladder cancers. Oncology, urology and radiotherapy units adopt a multidisciplinary working principle in urological cancers.
